DEC 11 2009NBA Week 7
FIRST OFF, IS THERE SOMEWHERE TO WRITE THE NBA TO GET SHANNON BROWN INTO THE DUNK CONTEST?!?
Yes...My man G-Love must be hyped!
I've always been a huge fan of Allen Iverson.
Fearless. Indestructible. Individual.
As far as I'm concerned....NEVER CONFORM.
Career stats:
27.0 ppg
6.2 apg
3.7 rpg (HE'S 6FT. TALL!!)
10 time all star
24,042 pts, 16th all time
I feel with intelligently managed minutes, he has numerous years in front of him. He will find his rhythm in Philly. Also, he should not feel ANY shame in coming off the bench whether it be for Philly or anyone else.
Lamar Odom coming off the Laker bench won L.A. a championship.
I recently saw "It Might Get Loud", a documentary featuring Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White. In it, Jimmy Page says, "There will come a day when we can no longer play guitar, where we can't even pick it up, and our goal is to put that day off as long as possible."
Allen should play the game he loves, for as long as he can, whatever the role. His legend is in stone. Future Hall of Famer.
***************
Thank you for pointing out Brandon Jennings.
55 points in the 7th game of his rookie year?! Only 5 have ever done that as a rookie: Barry, Monroe, Baylor, Chamberlain and Brandon Jennings. The story of his challenges in Italy and still triumphs in the NBA is truly inspiring.
*****************
Toronto:
Players like C. Bosh can keep almost any team in contention. Would like to see them up their #'s as far as free throws, 3's, and boards. Young legs can keep them in contention. Impressive W over Cleveland. Will have to beat both Boston and Orlando at least once during regular season to send a message.

Now...LAKERS
10 straight. Only one of which was on the road. (Golden State) Home test officially passed with victories over Miami (I know I know), Phoenix and Utah. Holding Utah to 6 points in the fourth quarter representing their #1 team defense status in league.
I went to this game, and it was all time.
Minnesota up tonight at home. I may go.
Road test up next:
Utah
Chicago
Milwaukee
New Jersey
Detroit
I'm highly impressed with the way this Laker team has been able to play in the moment one game at a time so far this year. The longer the streak, the more crucial this becomes.
Kobe putting up MVP type #'s and more importantly propelling his team to the top of the league.
28.8 PPG
4.1 APG
5.5 RPG
2.3 SPG
The Spurs need to play T. Ratliff more. Spurs starting 5 for now should be:
Parker
Ginobili (manage his minutes)
Jefferson
Duncan
McDyess
OK...back to shooting video for "Lay There and Hate Me."

Relentless NBA

Wow, there is a lot of talk
Wow, there is a lot of talk about how the Lakers can not be stopped on this blog. How about my Cavaliers just putting a beatdown on them on Christmas! That was impressive.
The Chosen One with the physicality of Shaq in the middle and the additions of Jamario Moon and Anthony Parker should get it done against the Magic and Lakers who have those big line-ups.
By the way - you gotta love Ben's version of the National Anthem at Game 3 of the NBA Finals in Cleveland. I still get chills listening to this. Check out the big smile on Bill Walton's face around 2:18 in the clip. The "Big Deadhead" is really loving it!

I'm with you on this one! I first heard the charge up here in Sacramento by way of the NBA League Pass...Joel and Stu. But it seems like ever since then, Shannon's been shy. What gives?
I was lucky enough to see him play extended minutes in the stressful but beautiful win against Sacramento the other night. He was that wonderful spark of energy off the bench they needed. Especially with Kobe playing one-handed.
Let Shannon Dunk!
Jennings might be the closest
Jennings might be the closest to Iverson-esque we've seen, don't you think? The inspiration he provides to young players out there likely comes, in a roundabout way, from Iverson. Iverson's story is absolutely incredible: witnessed a murder at age 8 and got himself through an amazing HS and Georgetown career without any significant parenting, according to the recent ESPN story. The character he brings to a team is indescribable. I'm excited to Rajon Rondo bringing some serious "in-your-face" attitude to the Celtics. Garnett and the toughness of that team has surely done a lot for his confidence. Just wish he could shoot!
What do you think about the Cavs annhialation of the Lakers on Christmas? And LeBron? The guy's unreal but starting to be a little too much, show-boat wise, in my opinion. You're gonna miss Artest's presence for a while now, huh? How unfortunate that my first thoughts, after hearing about the stairway spill, were "What really happened?" a la Tiger Woods. It's a shame that sports stars give us such doubts now.
Listening to the old school "Pleasure and Pain" with Tom Freund album this afternoon! I love the roots! What are your thoughts/feelings looking back on those days? Do you foresee bringing that style back someday or is that chapter over?
Thanks for your continuing inspiration,
Derek

Absolutely agree about AI.
Absolutely agree about AI. He is one of the best of all time. Here is an interesting state for you. The starting line-up when 76ers made the finals in 2001:
Iverson
Eric Snow
George Lynch
Tyronne Hill
Dikembe Mutombo
Has there been a worse starting line-up in the NBA finals? Other than Dikembe (who was old even in 2001), the other three starters didn't even have average careers. This is a testament to AI's greatness.
As for LA, with Pau back, they're pretty much rigged. I know you guys are LA all the way, but there's just something about Kobe that has always bothered me.
Another question for you guys (and the fans) -- if you could start five players from any team (current), who would it be?
Dig the music, dig Propr, now
Dig the music, dig Propr, now dig the NBA blog.
Absolutely - Lakers are just a handful for any team. I grew up in Chicago watching MJ, Scottie and Phil Jackson dominate everyone. This Lakers team reminds me of the efficient and near-perfect basketball those Bulls teams used to play. Even if it's a tough game and close at the end, they've got Kobe to close and three 7-footers to clean up. And Artest looks right at home. I have to move back to LA soon so I can see this squad before it's done.
Even though Denver just lost in Detroit, they look like they could give any team in the league a run. Any bench with instant offense like JR (call me Earl) Smith and a shot-blocker like Chris Anderson will be trouble later in the season and in the Playoffs.
Love the Thursday TNT and Friday ESPN games! We got LeBron vs. Brandon Roy to start the night. Can't get much better.
"Lay There and Hate Me" video? Wow. Can't wait.
Oh yeah... I'm watching the Cleveland game right now and it just popped into my head that you played the Star-Spangled Banner in Cleveland for Game 3 of the 2007 Finals. That's a nice rock/basketball combo - best of both worlds. Well done. Man... Good times.
