ACOUSTIC CONCERT SUPPORTS NONPROFIT'S MISSION TO SUPPORT BOYS HOME PROJECT IN INDIA
Internationally acclaimed Grammy Award-winning musician Ben Harper will headline a December fundraiser in San Francisco for the children's nonprofit New Light India. "An Acoustic Evening with Ben Harper" takes place Dec. 11 at Bimbo's 365 Club in S.F., and will benefit New Light India's "Boys Home Project" based in Kalighat, India in partnership with Lend Your Hands. Founded in 2000 by Urmi Basu, New Light India provides shelter, educational opportunities, recreational facilities, healthcare and legal aid for the girls and women in Kalighat, notorious for its red light district.
Said Harper, "For years I have admired New Light's life-saving work protecting and educating young girls and boys who are vulnerable to sexual exploitation. An important aspect of this issue is making sure that the boys of this horrific epidemic are tended to as well. My wife Jaclyn has visited Urmi and the children of New Light many times over the years and I am grateful that she has brought this critical issue to my attention. I am excited to put another concert on for this important cause."
A musician, songwriter, guitarist, producer and activist, Ben Harper has released 14 studio albums and three live albums since 1994. In 2013, his collaboration with Charlie Musselwhite, Get Up!, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues chart and spent 24 weeks in the Top 10. It won a Best Blues Album Grammy for Harper and harmonica master Musselwhite. Harper's albums, combined with an unceasing commitment to international touring, have helped him grow a fan base that spans several continents. Ben is currently touring the world with his original band, The Innocent Criminals, supporting their latest release, Call It What It Is.
