i had never heard of ben til this night in the first of May....my god the only thing that i can about that night is that i had a spiritual awakening that has burned in my soul for a year and a half and will continue to burn til the day i die. i have never in my life seen such a performance where a man can actually pour his soul out to you and even as you are standing amongst 10,000 people you still feel as if Ben is telling it all to you. thank you Ben and your band for opening my eyes to the world....and hopefully the of the world can one day see thru those eyes as well!
I've been listening to Ben for about a year or so now- and his music is just so deep, it's the kind of music you just can't turn off- hope to see ben again.
though I was nursing my friend from alot of alcohol , harper tore it up man, I've just started really diggin his music, i can't wait till he comes back to memphis
after seeing Ben in memphis, I decided he might be the second coming of Christ
EXCUSE ME MISTER THERE IS MORE TO BEN THAN STEALIN KISSES. This was the second time I saw Ben and he still sends chills with his talent and the raw emotion put in each song. The first time I saw him was 10/4/96 at Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, NC. when he opened for Pearl Jam. A couple buddies and myself drove all night from Memphis to see Pearl Jam. We got there early and worked our way to the front of the stage. Stage hands began setting up for the opening act, we had no idea who it was. The stage hands set a chair in the middle of the stage out comes this guy and sets a guitar flat in his lap. My first thought was what the hell. Then Ben rips into Jimmy Hendrixs Voode Chile (it was like Jimmy was playing through Ben). Instantly blown away and have been a faithful follower ever since. The biggest thrill for me at the Memphis show was watching the reaction from everyone who never heard of Ben as he poured his soul out for us. I knew exactly what they were thinking and feeling. Ben with each song, each riff you touch peoples lives in more ways than you will ever understand.
Thank you for finally showing the people of Memphis what I have been telling them since '96. If your tired of the junk on the radio today and want to be touched and inspired by a talented artist. GO SEE BEN HARPER. Then find out all you can about the man and what he is about, then you will see the world through new eyes.
This was my third show, however it was the first since 1998. Man I have been missing out. My girlfriend had to listen to me come home from college and rave about this "new" musician I had seen in Knoxville and Dallas. But I don't think she truly understood until she got to see Ben live. I already had tickets to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest, but once I found out that Ben and dave would be playing in memphis on the same weekend I knew Memphis would be the place to be. I... we, were not disappointed. To truly understand the music you must see it live, and feel the emotion that he puts into his performance. UNBELIEVABLE
Ben Harper is greatness.
WOW! THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME TO SEE BEN PLAY! I THOUGHT HE WAS AWESOME! I LOVE THIS BANDS MUSIC...I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO HIM FOR A WHILE. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM AGAIN. THE WHOLE SCENE WAS MORE THAN I COULD'VE ASKED FOR...THANKS BEN! KEEP IT UP!
This was a fantastic show. He came on and really ripped through an excellent set. He seemed like he was in good spirits as was the rest of the band. The setlist as best i can remember was: manic depression, burn one down, steal my kisses, glory and consequence...
What can I say to give this man and his band justice! I was awestruck! I had never heard of Ben before. He is now one of my very favorite artists... I can't wait to run out and buy his box set. Can't believe he's been around since early 90's! Watching his performance last night was such a moving experience. His following is awesome. He had the crowd captivated! It was hard to tell the long term followers from the new ones. Ben has magic about him! He puts his soul into his music that is definatley contagious! Everyone was feeling good. He's like a modern day Bob Marley mixed with some funky Jimi Hendrix, but definatly with a sound all his own. I can't wait to see him again! Ben rocked Memphis!! We love you!!
