Great show last night. I was completely blown away by the band and Charlie Musselwhite, but when Ben sang the last verse of "All That Matters Now" without a mic, I could feel the power of the emotion coming through the music. Total consciousness and very real. Loved it. Gotta also say that When the Levee Breaks was a great way to end the first set.

What an amazing show last night at the Beacon Theatre!! The sound at the Beacon was one of the top 3 best I have ever heard Ben perform in. The show started at 8:45 and ended at 10:20 which was a bit too short for my liking but it was an amazing 95 minutes no doubt! This was the 2nd time I saw this tour in the past 4 months-the first time being at Irving Plaza. I believe that Ben is using a different drummer than he used at the Irving Plaza show. Somewhere in the shuffle of things the drummer from R7 has vanished because he didn't perfom with the band at either of the shows I went to. Anyway, the drummer from last night was right on rocking with his afro. The Harlem Gospel Choir came out to join the band perform a few songs (3 I believe) which included 2 BHIC classics-Homeless Child and When It's Good. The 3rd song was We Can't End This Way from the new album GET UP! The choir was fantastic and added an entire different feel to the night--a great one ;-) Ben showed much respect to the Harlem Gospel Choir when they were done performing with him by removing his hat and bowing to them all!! Charlie Musselwhite just keeps getting better with age--like a fine wine. It's so amazing to hear/see a harmonica player of his caliber perform. The other highlights for me were: After the 2nd song it was dead silent and I screamed out "Thank you for playing The Beacon Theatre tonight guys!" and the audience cheered, hooted, and hollered in agreement--then Ben and the band acknowledged us by waving and thanking us. The other 2 highlights for me were when Ben & Charlie were on stage by themselves performing You Found Another Lover. The stage lighting and the acoustics for this song were absolutely beautiful!!!!! My jaw dropped open and I just absorbed the entire moment. The 3rd highlight for me was when Ben came to the front of the stage no microphone needed and belted out the acapella part of one of the songs from the new album on GET UP! Oh yeah, they played a killer version of Led Zeppelins When the Levee Breaks and the crowd went nuts! Overall this was a performance that I will never forget and will be constantly reminded of by the poster I bought at the merchandise table. It is getting framed today and will go up right next to the Appollo poster from 10/04 and the Carnegie Hall poster from 10/10/12. For some reason I didn't get the Radio City Music Hall poster-I better look into getting that one.
Thank you for an amazing evening of beautiful music guys!
All the best--Matt Hoffman (the Garbologist)
