Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals

Opera House

Thursday, October 14, 1999 at 7:00pm PDT

After playing "Burn to Shine", Ben told the audience that they could come up to the front. The security guards went berserk and checked everyone's tickets and wouldn't let anyone go up in front. Finally after one or two songs Ben admonished the security guards saying how they need to
chill out and to let the kids be. He refused to play and threatened to stop the concert if they wouldn't let the kids be where they are. Finally, the security let up as Ben gestured to one guard to make sure there were no hard feelings. At one point he said he didn't want segregation between the stage and
the people. He also said how he didn't want people going home saying the Ben Harper concert was boring. After the show, Ben mentioned that he is going to have a talk with security from now on before the shows.
