I am excited to announce the release of my mom's book "Always a Song." It is her life story from east coast to west, in and around music, and a wonderful read. It was fun for me to write the forward as well. Get a copy at EllenHarper.net.
It was an honor to have been asked to write a song for Sonia Lowman's film Black Boys, a culturally vital documentary that premiered on Peacock back in September. "Black Beauty" is available now. Listen here.

I've just released a cover of the Coldplay song "Fix You," which stretches from Texas (Justin Pate/Keyboards) to Oklahoma (Jimmy Paxson/Drums) to Los Angeles (Jordan C. Brown) to Soweto Gospel Choir, South Africa.
Collaboration has been a big part staying connected with friends in these times for me – and we are delighted to be able to share this song of hope and friendship with you as we head into the Holidays.
Massive appreciation to Coldplay for such an incredible song.
I'll be performing a #StayAwayShow on La Blogothèque Instagram TOMORROW (Tuesday, Nov 10) at 7:30pm CET / 6:30pm GMT / 1:30pm ET / 10:30am PT. The broadcast starts 30 minutes prior.
Hope to see you there at instagram.com/blogotheque.
Here is my next track, "London," off "Winter Is For Lovers," which will be out on October 23. This track is influenced by the great British guitar players, such as Richard Thompson, Nick Drake, John Martyn and Jimmy Page. It’s got that driving push and pulse, a jingling jangling rumble, and to me it felt like London specifically.
The first round of pressing of a limited edition vinyl of the record has already sold out, but fans can still pre-order both digital and additional physical versions of "Winter Is For Lovers" here.
Join Ben for LIVE IN SESSION Q&A on his Facebook following a special performance by his Mad Bunny Records debut artist Birdthrower this Wednesday LIVE September 16 at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
"A singular songwriter even among the most singular...These new Birdthrower songs, produced by Harper with stunning purity, form the ideal song cycle for these nonsensical times" - American Songwriter
"A goth-folk gem" - Rolling Stone Magazine
This is a video excerpt of "Inland Empire," from my new instrumental album entitled Winter Is For Lovers. It was filmed at my family music shop, The Folk Music Center, which has been open 62 years. Deluxe signed and numbered 180 gram vinyl out now on Anti Records.
Filmed by Alex Bordoni & Adam Keely
This has been a long time in the making, and today my instrumental album "Winter Is For Lovers" is available on limited edition signed and numbered 180 gram vinyl.
The album is meant to be one composition, an A-side and B-side, comprised of 15 movements.
Formatting this album for digital was a unique challenge, and in doing so, I have named the individual pieces within the body of work after some of the places that have influenced the album, or where the pieces themselves were written.
To order go to the Ben Harper Shop. We expect to start shipping on or around September 4, 2020. Select USPS Media Mail for cheapest shipping! A standard vinyl and digital version will be available later this fall.
While government and law enforcement turn a blind eye, this 100% factual murder mystery follows a serial killer through New York's gay community in the 1990's.
He targets his victims with methodic precision, then hauntingly fades back into his daily life, going undetected. Before you know it, the author has somehow found a way to place the reader in the position of peering over the assailant's shoulder.
Being reminded of the gender bias at that time is highly unsettling, but the void of protection by the state is almost as shocking as the murders themselves.
Not since Norman Mailer's "The Executioner's Song" have I read a book that reads like a novel while being 100% non-fiction.
This book is not only the masterwork of a first-time author, but serves as a love letter to gender equality.
